JBoss Open Sources Exadel Eclipse plugins

Yesterday I read this post from EclipseZone about JBoss releasing the Exadel plug-ins as Open Source. I’ve used Exadel a little bit and I like it quite a bit. It had good Hibernate support which made working with it a breeze. I had two issues with it though. One was that the templates for Hibernate code generation weren’t really templates. You had to write Eclipse plug-in code to modify them, IIRC. That was annoying and because the existing templates generated gobs of code that I didn’t want in the system.

My other beef was the price which used to be a couple hundred bucks. With MyEclipse coming in at $52 bucks a year with a lot of the same features I couldn’t justify the expense at that time. Of course free beats that.
